3 TIPS FOR BRINGING FALL INTO YOUR HOME

Now that Labor Day has passed and Starbucks has announced the official beginning of fall with the bringing back of the pumpkin spiced latte (I don’t drink coffee but if I did…) we can know start thinking of ushering the season into our homes.  I know that I won’t be able to really feel fall in the air here for a few more months, but that is not going to start this girl from dreaming.  Today I am going to share three really easy and inexpensive ways that you can bring the feeling of fall into your home.  So sit in front of your fire, grab a cozy throw, sip your hot cocoa and kick back.

TIP 1:  FOCUS ON THE FIREPLACE

Don’t worry, I am not going to go all themed mantle on you, but the change in seasons definitely brings us indoors and gathering around our fireplaces more.  Now is the perfect time to focus on stepping up your fireplace and mantle styling game.  If your fireplace is a little dated and in need of a little update, you would be shocked what a difference just replacing the surround and firebox doors can do.  In our recent Palos Verdes remodel, we added a slab of black quartz to the surround and it totally turned an un-noteworthy fireplace into the star of the show.  If you don’t need a complete fireplace re-do, you can always add some new accessories to fresh up the look of your mantle.  Add a new log holder (I am literally obsessed with this one…someone please buy it since I can’t justify it in Southern California), switch out your greenery for some fall foliage, and incorporate some new art work and accessories and poof you have a whole new look to cozy up to this fall.

TIP 2: BRING IN THE FALL HUES

Pantone just released it Fall 2016 Fashion Color Report and the colors are gorgeous.  We all know that what happens in fashion usually ends up bleeding it way into the home design space, so I have more than a sneaking suspicion that these color will be seen in home goods this fall.  I am loving that they have some of the more traditional colors like mustard and a rusty red, but also some less common fall colors like that gorgeous dusty pink color, grey blues, and that amazing magenta.  Love them!

TIP 3:  ADD IN COZY TEXTURES

Give us all the chunky knits, furry pillows, velvet and sheepskin rugs you can find.  Fall is a great time to bring in some heavier fabrics and textures into your space.  Fall and winter are all about hibernating…just kidding..unless you’re a bear…but they are about crisp air and cold nights so it is definitely a must to move out some of your lighter weight fabrics and bring in some textiles and pillows that have a little more heft to them.

BONUS TIP:  THE SMELL OF FALL IS IN THE AIR

I am leaving you with one small bonus tip.  Fall is a perfect time to switch out the scents in your home.  Pack away the gardenia and mimosa candles and get ready for some richer, headier smells that will remind you of something delicious cooking in the oven all day.  I will leave you guys with just a few of my favorites.

  • Fall is my absolute favorite time of year! I love the colors, the weather, the foods, and everything else about it. Adding key fall pieces and colors into your home can really make your home feel like fall is in the air. I love the idea of a dusty pink color for fall. It is not a typical fall color, but it still matches the season anyways!
