ECLECTIC MIDCENTURY FAMILY ROOM

Hey hey! We have a new client we are helping design a few rooms for and I thought it would be fun to share a little bit about the project and the beginning of our design process. Shen has a really awesome midcentury home with unique lines and an a-frame roof line. A lot of her walls are windows and there is a lot of great natural light in the home. It’s a really open concept floor plan with her kitchen right in the middle. We can’t wait to share the before and after photos with you soon!

Our client loves the current midcentury trends, but also wants an eclectic feel to her space. When designing for this style, there are 4 things we keep in mind:

  1. Add multiple textures to your space. In this room we have leather, upholstery, rattan, metal and hemp – all textures bring warmth and variation to the space.

  2. Global Textiles add interest and color! Right now we are seeing a lot of mudcloth, shibori and rich/unique patterns on pillows, throws and rugs.

  3. Don’t be afraid to mix wood tones – we are all about it! It’s okay to combine birch with walnut. You can see here that the chairs have dark wood and the side chair and sideboard/TV stand have lighter wood tones. It all works together.

  4. In order for everything to not feel too heavy, we always add in key white pieces to our rooms. It makes everything come together and it’s like a breath of fresh air.

In this space, I especially love the pendant we will hang from the ceiling over the leather chairs. This sideboard is a fabulous value at only $887 and comes with either a walnut or oak top. And of course, these poufs are super fun for decor and extra seating.
