HANGING ART IN YOUR HOME: GET IT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME

So I was doing my typical perusing on Pinterest, because well…duh, and I stumbled upon the absolute greatest inforgraphic that ever lived.  Okay, so that might be overstating it just a little bit, but seriously, the team at made.com truly knocked it out of the park.  We get asked questions about hanging art, buying art, gallery walls, etc all the time by clients and readers and we have actually covered the topic of art quite a bit here on the blog.  This infographic though does such an amazing job of really detailing every art display scenario that you could basically ever run in to.

This staircase gallery wall is literally everything.  Not only is it laid-out perfectly, but it also highlights the importance of composition when putting a gallery wall together.  While all of the pieces are not the exact same style, it is limited to 3 basic styles-florals, abstracts and illustrations- and a limited color palette.  Basically it is perfection.

This next space is definitely a lesson in knowing the proportions of the room.  With the high ceilings and statement brick wall, it would have been too much to hang a busy gallery wall above the sofa.  These three poster-sized images look absolutely perfect in this space.  They draw attention to the brick wall without detracting from it.

I love the simplicity of this grid layout of the frames above the sofa.  Talk about making a huge in the space.  There is something about the order of the grid layout that really lets the artwork standout, without having the actual layout of the art distract from the overall look.  As a side note, I absolutely love the oversized mats paired with the undersized prints.

Salon-style, don’t you fell fancy just saying that, has a more collected, curated over time feel to it.  Mixing frames and styles of art work helps create movement and interest in the grouping.  Select your one focal piece to begin with and then build your gallery around that piece.
