A NEUTRAL CHRISTMAS

Can you believe that there are only 2 months (like 59 days) until Christmas?  I know…me neither and I am kind of starting to freak out.  I am actually in the planning stages for a couple of holiday shoots that I will be posting in the upcoming weeks and have been looking on Pinterest for inspiration for different kinds of looks.  I thought it might be fun leading up to Christmas to share some different holiday decorating styles with you guys and give you some ideas and product recommendation on how to create those same looks in your own home this holiday season.  Today I wanted to start with a neutral, modern Christmas.  I love how simple, sophisticated and Scandinavian this look is.  Definitely a look that I could see myself going for in my own home.  And can we talk about the trend of Christmas trees in baskets?  I LOVE that look.  I am going to share with you guys some smaller artificial trees that would look great in a basket, but it would totally work with larger or live tree too.

To make a neutral or tonal Christams look work, the key is to layer different shades of the same color on top of each other, like ivory with whites, or variations of gray or tan.  You can also mix varying shades of neutral together to make the look interesting.  Another key is to include texture into the equation.  Whether it be faux fur, chunky knit fabrics, metallics, or velvets, there are so many different options of materials that you can work with.  The great think about the holiday time season is that the heavier, richer fabrics completely make sense and work during the entire winter season.  That is another thing that I love about this decorating scheme.  Since it is more holiday than it is Christmas, you can keep elements of it up throughout the winter, so you don’t have to pack them up as soon as Christmas is over.
