TREND ALERT: NAVY

So navy is having a major moment right now.  From the runway to home decor, this classic color is being  featured everywhere.  Navy really started emerging as THE color in home design at the end of last year and that trend shows no sign of slowing down.  We love using navy in our designs because it is such a timeless, unexpected neutral.  It pairs so beautifully with dark wood, pink, coral, gold, and white.  You name it, and navy is going to make it look good.  There are really three different ways to bring this color into your home, because let’s face it, not everyone is ready to go all in and paint their walls navy blue.

The most bold way to feature navy in a space is by painting the walls.  This makes such a statement and can really bring richness and depth to your space.  Our favorite navy paint is Sherwin Williams Naval.  It brings so much elegance to a space and it really warms it up.  It reads as a true navy and isn’t too bright; perfect for a masculine space or a more formal look.  Some people worry about whether they should use a deep, saturated color like navy in a small space or a space that does not get a lot of natural light.   We personally believe that it is perfectly fine to use a dark color in a small space or a space without a ton of natural light, especially if you are wanting a cozier look.  Check out some rooms that use navy walls for maximum impact.

If you aren’t quite ready to take the plunge with navy walls but still want to have something navy in the room that makes a big impact, you can add a piece of navy furniture.  We loving using navy couches and chairs for client’s that have young, active families.  They are great at hiding the stains and messes that come along with having small children.  Two of our absolute favorite sofas to use are this Chesterfield Tufted Sofa and this one that is used in the Emily Henderson image below.  If you are looking to spend a little less, this one from Macy’s is gorgeous and is currently on sale.  We also love sourcing the EKTORP sofa from Ikea for families that aren’t quite ready for an investment piece of furniture yet, but still want something stylish and functional.

If a major piece of furniture is not in the budget right now, you can still get in on the trend by adding in navy blue accessories.  There are so many beautiful fabrics, pillows, and rugs that really make a statement in the room.  You can never, ever go wrong with Caitlin Wilson pillows.  Our two favorites are her Navy Fleur Chinoise and her Navy Deco pillows.  You can also bring in navy with something as simple as a throw over a couch or chair.  We love this luxurious alpaca throw from Serena and Lily.  Rugs are also a great option for incorporating navy into your room for many of the same reasons that it works on furniture…great for hiding stains!  We love this option from Urban Outfitters.  Such an AMAZING price.  We think this Rugs Direct option is pretty awesome as well!
